The World’s first solar road is here!!
A small village of Tourouvreau-Perche in Normandy, France opened 1 kilometer road on Thursday. The road is inaugurated by the French Ecology Minister Ségolène Royal.
The project with 2- year test period is to test whether solar panels can be implemented effectively at a large scale at the cost of €5m (£4.2m). The project is intending to power the streetlights in the town.
French is not the first country to open the solar path in 2017 Netherland’s village Krommenie opened a solar-powered cycle path at the cost of 52000kWh, which generated 3000kWh of energy.
Before the solar-powered road – called Wattway – was opened on the RD5 road, the panels were tested at four car parks across France. The constructor was Colas, part of giant telecoms group Bouygues, and financed by the state.
Royal said she would like to install solar panels on one in every 1000kn of French highway.
