Google Is Going All In on Renewable Energy in 2017

The Internet giant Google is all set to powered 100% its 13 data centers and offices in 150 cities worldwide by renewable energy. Google will be buying enough wind and solar electricity annually to account for every unit of electricity to achieve 100% by 2017.

As per announcement, powered 100% target means for every unit of electricity it consumes from coal or natural gas power plants, it would now powered by wind or solar electricity.


Google have already achieved 37% in 2014.It is not yet announced that how much electricity it will required by the end of next year to reach the desire result, but hinted that the amount would exceed 5.7 terawatt-hours solar and wind energy that it bought in 2015.

The company has been investing since 2006 with the construction of a 1.5 megawatt solar energy system. Since 2010, it’s signed 2.6 gigawatts worth of solar and wind contracts.
